Welcome

This is the professional website of Dr. Catherine P. Foster, post-doctoral researcher investigating domestic economy and interregional interactions during the Late Uruk/Chalcolithic Period in greater Mesopotamia, with a particular emphasis in household archaeology and microdebris analysis. She is especially interested in the interactions between small-scale social groups like households and larger socioeconomic processes that are reflected in daily practices. Her work both as an archaeologist and museum curator draws from theorectical aspects of embodied spaces, materiality, and sensory approaches to the ancient past.

Dr. Foster received her PhD in Near Eastern Art and Archaeology from the University of California, Berkeley in 2009. Her research has been supported by the Samuel H. Kress Foundation, American Research Institute in Turkey, American Schools of Oriental Research, National Endowment for the Humanities, George Franklin Dales Foundation, and Archaeological Research Facility (UC Berkeley). Dr. Foster has conducted field work in Turkey, Jordan and North America.
